Solid Density Analyzers
Description
These solid density analyzers measure with the highest level of accuracy over the widest range of sample sizes.
The gas pycnometers
provide accurate results with any of the included sample cells. The word “Pycnometry”, derived from the Greek word pyknуs, meaning ‘dense’, has long been identified with volume measurements. Quantachrome’s automatic gas pycnometers have long been identified as the instruments of choice to accurately measure the true density of solid materials by employing Archimedes’ principle of fluid displacement, and Boyle’s Law of gas expansion. An inert gas, rather than a liquid, is used since it will penetrate even the finest pores and eliminate the influence of surface chemistry. This ensures quick results of the highest accuracy. Helium is generally used as the displacement gas due to its size and generally inert behavior. Other gases, such as nitrogen, are also routinely used with no measureable sacrifice of performance.
Benefits of Gas Pycnometry
• Non-destructive analysis
• Fast and accurate results (in as little as 1 minute)
• Reliable and reproducible results
• Wide range of sample volumes and configurations
• Instrument has small footprint
• Uses small amount of gas pressurized to < 20 psig
The tapped density analyzers
can use an array of graduated cylinder sizes so they are adjustable to different standards’ requirements.
The micro rotary rifflers
ensure representative sampling from larger amounts.
Product list
Ultrapyc series
Ultrapyc gas pycnometers measure the true and skeletal density of solids to track their purity and porosity. Measurements take less than 10 minutes, so they are perfect to control the quality of your solid materials throughout the manufacturing process.
Autotap and Dual Autotap
The Autotap and Dual Autotap tapped density analyzers for powders are simple to use, automated devices which comply with a large number of internationally recognized standard methods. Single and dual station designs are available to fit your lab’s throughput needs.
Micro Rotary Riffler
Automated representative sampler. The Micro Rotary Riffler splits samples as large as 120 cm³ into eight representative portions appropriately sized for measurements in your particle size, gas sorption, or mercury intrusion analyzer.
PentaFoam
True density analysis of foams. Five-station PentaFoam pycnometer employ gas pycnometry to measure and calculate the open- and closed-cell content, compressibility, and cell fracture of foam samples.
PentaPyc
PentaPyc 5200e Automatic Gas Pycnometers are used for the measurement of true density and volume of solids. They up to five samples sized from 1 cm³ to 135 cm³ with the highest level of accuracy
